St Bernard’s College is situated on extensive piece of land providing space for a myriad of facilities that are utilised by our students. These facilities allow students to explore and thrive in a range of different areas of expertise, bringing to life the College motto, “Discere et Agere” – “to learn and to do”.

Some of the facilities situated at our Essendon campus include a 25-metre heated indoor swimming pool, auditorium, a multi-purpose indoor stadium, four outdoor undercover basketball courts, synthetic tennis courts, a hockey pitch, cricket pitches, two ovals, a soccer pitch, junior and senior science labs, Design and Technology Centre (Food Technology, Wood, Metal and Materials Technology and Art rooms), a Chapel, photographic darkroom along with specialised media and music rooms.

The College’s Frank FitzGerald Auditorium is a highlight, featuring 396 seats and modern, state-of-the-art equipment, primarily utilised for student-centric activities such as musicals, drama productions, and music concerts.

The College offers an array of sporting and multi-purpose facilities for hire, including the auditorium, catering to various events and functions. Margaret Tierney Centre

Our newest building, having opened in 2023, is the Margaret Tierney Centre. This state-of-the-art facility has been specifically designed for our Year 11 and 12 students and boasts an array of modern features to enhance the learning experience.

Featuring 20 classrooms with a central amphitheatre, the Margaret Tierney Centre provides a dynamic and engaging space for our senior students. In addition to the classrooms, the building is also home to crucial staff members including the careers team, VCE and VET coordinators, Year Level leaders, and members of the counselling team. This strategic placement ensures that our senior students have access to the support and guidance they need to excel in their academic and personal development.

The innovative design of the Margaret Tierney Centre has garnered attention from architects in the teaching and learning space for its forward-thinking approach to education facility design. This cutting-edge building is a testament to our commitment to providing the best possible learning environment for our students.

 

Named in honour of Margaret Tierney, the mother of the Blessed Edmund Rice, the centre pays tribute to her pivotal role as Edmund's first educator. As a homeschooler, Margaret not only imparted knowledge in the faith but also led by example in serving others. Her influence on young Edmund, inspiring his dedication to those at the margins, continues to resonate through the ethos of our school.

The Margaret Tierney Centre stands as a symbol of our dedication to excellence in education and our ongoing commitment to fostering the holistic development of our students. We are proud to provide this outstanding facility to support the growth and success of our senior students as they prepare for the next stage of their lives.

Experience Sporting Excellence

Sporting and Outdoor Facilities

Our College boasts an array of top-tier sporting amenities, including two AFL ovals, a soccer pitch, tennis courts, and a hockey pitch. Additionally, our indoor gymnasium features two full-size basketball courts with retractable seating that can be transformed into a table tennis area. The covered outdoor learning area provides six half courts for various sports. With these exceptional facilities, our students have ample opportunities to hone their athletic skills and engage in a wide range of sporting pursuits, promoting physical fitness and a healthy, active lifestyle.

Indoor 25m Pool: A Hub for Athletic Development and Wellbeing

Our College is proud to offer an indoor 25m pool that serves as a training venue for our ACC interschool sport swim squad as they prepare for championships. Additionally, the pool is utilised by our HPE classes, providing students with the opportunity to develop essential swimming skills.

Our multi-level art and technology centre is a creative haven, featuring two fully equipped food technology classrooms, multiple art classrooms, a visual communication and design classroom, as well as specialised facilities including a kiln and 3D printer. Wood, Metal, and Materials Technology Rooms

Our College is equipped with dedicated classrooms for wood and metal technology classes. Frank FitzGerald Auditorium

With 396 tiered seating, a well-equipped stage, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, our auditorium serves as the focal point for a range of student-centric activities. From the annual College musical, drama productions, and music soirees to information evenings and guest speaker events, our auditorium provides the perfect setting for a diverse array of engaging and memorable experiences. Photography and Media

Our studio offers a green screen, ideal for media study filming, along with darkroom facilities and a wide range of photography and filming equipment. Students have the perfect environment to delve into the art of photography and media, bringing their creative ideas to life using our comprehensive studio resources

Marian Chapel

Come and experience the serene beauty of our College chapel, a place steeped in history and tradition. With a seating capacity of close to 300 people, the chapel provides a tranquil space for quiet reflection and communal prayer. Originally built in the 1960s by the Christian Brothers and dedicated to the Virgin Mary, this sacred tradition continues in our new chapel, which was constructed in 2018. Archbishop Peter Comensoli officially blessed and opened the chapel on 20 February 2019, marking a significant milestone for our College community. The chapel stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering spirituality and reverence on campus.

Year 9 Campus

Resurrection House

Step into the captivating Year 9 campus, Resurrection House, where students have the opportunity to develop leadership skills in a safe, nurturing environment. Boasting a spacious hall with a dynamic stage, multiple outdoor play spaces, a tailored art room, and a beautiful church, our campus offers an exceptional learning environment.
