2024 SBOCA Bowls Day
The St Bernard's Old Collegian Association has been hard at work to organise a brand-new event for our Old Collegian community!
The inaugural SBOCA Bowls Day is locked in for Friday, 22 March!
This is sure to fill up fast as we have a limit of 32 teams, so be sure to get your team together and booked early!
Chris Lane (SBOC 2008) Memorial Field
Ten years in the making, the Chris Lane Field will be officially opened on Saturday, 17 February at Boeing Reserve in Strathmore Heights.
In 2009 after graduating St Bernard's, Chris Lane left Australia on a scholarship to Redlands Community College, in El Reno, to pursue his dream of playing baseball professionally in the United States.
Four years later, on 16 August 2013, that dream was brutally cut short in a few senseless seconds, when Chris, 22, was murdered by bored teenagers in a random drive-by shooting while he was out jogging in Duncan, Oklahoma, visiting his girlfriend.
In 2013, Major League Baseball with Essendon baseball club and Moonee Valley City Council (MVCC), proposed a new Junior Sports Field in Chris Lane’s honour. MVCC plans for this field were approved in 2014.
This weekend, Saturday February 17 the field is officially set to open with aa Little League tournament starting at 2pm, and the offical opening ceremony to take place at 6pm with all welcome to attend.
A fantastic tribute to a wonderful Old Collegian who was taken too soon
SBC Careers Team Needs Your Help!
The Careers department at St Bernard’s College are looking for expressions of interest from alumni for opportunities to participate in current students' learning. As an Old Collegian, sharing your study and career journey with our students is valuable information in their decision making for post-school pathways. Being able to attend real life workplaces for work experience is also highly sought by students.
By completing this form you can let us know how you would like to contribute.
At this point we are collating information; we will contact you at a later stage with further details should you wish to participate.
2024 SBOCA Grant Program
In 2023, the St Bernard's Old Collegian Association proudly supported four Old Collegians through the SBOCA Grant Program - we are looking forward to continuing the tradition in 2024!

Leo Pitts (SBOC 56') - The Carpenter
Old Collegian Leo Pitts (SBOC 1956) has recently become an author - publishing his first book titled "The Carpenter"
A little about Leo
Leo was born into a committed Catholic family – one of seven kids growing up in the rough and tumble of the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. He made a good altar boy, and his parents hoped he would make an even better priest. Leo showed great promise at the seminary and was selected to finish his studies in Rome. But the journey turned out to be his Catholic undoing as he witnessed lifestyle excesses at the Vatican and felt shockingly out of place.
Leo left the Vatican and returned to Melbourne, taking on several different occupations. Years later after experiencing people moving away from the teachings of Jesus, he re-immersed himself into the Gospels and decided that ordinary people needed it to be more accessible.
A quote from Leo regarding the book "I hope that in some small way I can encourage people to have another look. Going to church doesn’t seem to cut it, so hopefully we can start them taking notice again"

Stay connected to the St Bernard's Community
We've added an update personal details page to our website to make it easy for Old Collegians to provide updated contact details to the College. Ensuring your contact details are up to date with the College is essential to continue to receive our publications and invitations to Old Collegian events, such as the Reunions.
