Bernie's Spotlight - Steve McCann (1981)

Steve has extensive experience across real estate, infrastructure, funds management, and capital markets transactions, and has proven himself a capable leader of some of Australia’s biggest companies.

After graduating from St Bernard’s, Steve went on to attain a double degree of Laws and Economics from Monash University, and then quickly rose through the financial world. Recently appointed chief executive of Star Entertainment, Steve is well respected in the industry and best known for his 12-year tenure as CEO of LendLease, one of the country’s largest real estate and infrastructure firms. He has also worked as CEO of Crown Resorts and on the board of Scentre Group (who own Westfield).

When not in the boardroom, Steve has a love of horseracing, developed from one of his first jobs as a bookies clerk at Flemington. He has significant ownership and breeding interests and is a long-term partner in Vinery Stud.

ACC Footy - End of Season Awards

In the final week of term, we held the ACC AFL awards afternoon. Each year level’s Most Valuable Player was recognised for their outstanding performance. The Senior division’s Brownlow-style vote count created an electric atmosphere!

Well done to all players and thank you to Steve Alessio, our dedicated coaches and staff. We look forward to continued success in the future!

SBOCA Grand Final Lunch

The annual Old Collegians Grand Final Day Lunch was a rousing success, with some fantastic guest speakers, good food and good beer!

With Paul Madden and SBOCA president Jasper Brettell as excellent hosts, the Old Collegians were treated to some great insights and stories from All-Australian ruckman Todd Goldstein (North Melbourne, Essendon), Brownlow Medallist Adam Cooney (Western Bulldogs, Essendon) and dual premiership player Brandon Ellis (Richmond, Gold Coast). The traditional auction and raffle were also a success, with highlights including Grand Final tickets and an Essendon jumper signed by the whole 2024 squad.

Thanks very much to the Moonee Ponds Club, our guest speakers and to all who attended, and we hope to see you next year!

500 Supporters Group Spring Racing Lunch

On Tuesday, 29 October the 500 Supporters' Group is holding their annual Racing Lunch at the MCG with guest speakers Damien Oliver and Neil Wilson.

St Bernard's College is a strong supporter of this event and many of our Old Collegians are involved in this organisation - in particular Patrick O'Brien as chair - so the St Bernard's community is well represented.

The 500 Supporters' Group primary objective has been to support the Ruben Centre in one of the poorest regions in Nairobi, Kenya by funding the majority of its operating costs of more than $1.4 million per annum. The 500 Supporters' Group, via the Edmund Rice Foundation, is proud to have been Ruben's cornerstone donor for over 20 years now. Since its establishment, the Group has raised in excess of $8 million for the Ruben Centre.

A classy event with all proceeds going to a fantastic cause. Those interested can book or find more information here: The 500 Supporters' Group (500supportersgroup.org)
