Debating is an integral part of our students' education, helping them to hone their critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills. At St Bernard’s, students have various avenues to participate in debating and public speaking, including taking part in the ACC Debating and Public Speaking competition or joining a DAV Debating team.

The Debaters Association of Victoria (DAV) is a statewide debating competition that provides students with the opportunity to engage in competitive debating against other schools across Victoria. The DAV competition is open to students of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to experienced debaters.

At St Bernard's, we offer our students the opportunity to participate in the DAV Debating Program, where they can develop their debating skills and participate in competitive debates against other schools. Students can choose to participate in a range of different formats, including prepared debates, impromptu debates, and public speaking competitions.

Participation in debating opportunities is a fantastic way for students to build their confidence, improve their communication skills, and engage in critical thinking and analysis. It also provides students with the opportunity to develop their teamwork skills, as they work collaboratively with their peers to prepare and present their arguments

We take pride in our students' accomplishments in the debating and public speaking programs and urge all students to seize this exciting opportunity and enjoy the numerous benefits of competitive debating. Whether you are a seasoned debater or a beginner, there is a place for you in the Debating program at St Bernard's.
