Yesterday, the College held its annual House Athletics Carnival under perfect weather conditions. The theme for the year, “Be Bold,” was embraced by all students, who participated in a variety of events from track and field to egg and spoon races.

Students learned new techniques from our talented staff, enhancing their athletic skills. The spirit of competition was strong, with everyone giving their best effort and supporting their peers.

The highlight of the day was Nagle House being announced as the victors, their cheers echoing across the grounds.

This morning, eight of our aspiring tennis stars took to the Paul McNamee Tennis Courts for the official launch of the St Bernard’s College Tennis Academy. This new program, developed in partnership with the iTennis Coaching Academy, marks an exciting step forward for the College.

Under the expert guidance of Chris Singh, who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the academy, participants will receive premier-level tennis training tailored to their individual needs. Our program encompasses not only skill development on the court but also incorporates fitness sessions aimed at enhancing overall athletic performance. Additionally, mental preparation techniques are included to help athletes build resilience and focus, essential traits for success in competitive sports. Furthermore, the academy provides students with opportunities to participate in local, national, and international tournaments, offering them invaluable experience in high-pressure environments. Through rigorous training and comprehensive support, the St Bernard’s College Tennis Academy is designed to inspire and develop the next generation of tennis champions, fostering a passion for the sport and encouraging lifelong engagement in athletic pursuits.

The Senior ACC 1st XI Cricket team has shown incredible determination and skill over the first three rounds, with standout performances and memorable moments.

In Round 1, St Bernard’s faced a narrow defeat against St Patrick’s, Ballarat, losing by just one wicket. St Pat's scored 9/161 in 34.2 overs, while St Bernard’s managed 6/157 in 35 overs. Ethan was a standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 39 runs and taking 2 wickets for 11 runs. Callum contributed 27 runs, and Daniel and Sam took 2 wickets. This match also marked the debut of seven players for the 1st XI team: James, Sam, Logan, Tanner, Flynn, Joshua, and Matthew.

Round 2 saw St Joseph’s, Geelong defeat St Bernard’s by 71 runs. Despite the loss, Callum’s remarkable hat-trick was the highlight of the match, finishing with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 28 runs.

In an exciting Round 3 game, St Bernard’s triumphed over De La Salle with a score of 103 to 96. Ethan delivered a stellar performance, taking 4 wickets for just 8 runs, while Sam also shone with 4 wickets for 21 runs and a crucial 41 runs with the bat.

Special recognition goes to Callum for his hat-trick in Round 2, showcasing his exceptional talent and making a significant impact on the game. We look forward to more thrilling performances from our team in the upcoming matches.

On Tuesday, our VCE Literature Unit 3 students had the unique opportunity to participate in an engaging workshop centred around Shakespeare’s beloved play, As You Like It. The session was led by the talented performers from Eagle’s Nest Theatre Company, who brought the timeless text to life through captivating performances and interactive analysis.

The workshop provided students with a dynamic and immersive experience, allowing them to delve deeply into key scenes from the play. Through these explorations, they examined central themes such as love, identity, and transformation. The performers’ vivid portrayals and insightful commentary helped students understand how Shakespeare’s use of language and drama shapes meaning and evokes emotion.

In addition to thematic exploration, the workshop offered valuable insights into character relationships, enhancing students’ comprehension of the intricate dynamics between the play’s characters. The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to actively engage with the material, fostering a deeper appreciation for Shakespeare’s craft.

Moreover, the workshop equipped students with practical strategies for their studies. They learned techniques for analysing text, interpreting character motivations, and appreciating the nuances of Shakespearean dialogue. These skills are not only essential for their current coursework but also beneficial for their overall literary analysis abilities.

Overall, the As You Like It workshop was a resounding success, leaving students inspired and better prepared for their VCE Literature studies.
